What to ask when buying a property

Before you make any offers on a home, it’s vital that you ask questions about the property. While some of the answers may throw you off or make you rethink your offer, you’ll ultimately feel more confident and assured that you’re making the right decision.

Here are 5 questions you should ask when buying a property.

1. What is the position of the sellers?
It’s important to know how serious the sellers really are. If they are in a hurry to sell then it may be easier to negotiate with them.

2. What’s included in the sale?
Through your agent, try and ensure that the sellers have an inventory which sets out their intentions surrounding fixtures and fittings – from curtain poles and carpets to garden ornaments.

3. What is the minimum a seller will accept?
If you insult the seller with a lowball offer, you could lose your shot at the house. To avoid offending the homeowner, ask the seller’s agent how firm the seller is on price. Keep in mind that not every seller may be willing to bargain.

4. What’s your legal right of way?
Always check to see if the house you’re looking to buy has a shared driveway and what the implications are. You should also ask just where exactly the boundaries of the property lie.

5. What are the neighbors like?
Visit the property several times throughout the week at different times of the day. This can give you some sort of indication as to what the surrounding neighbors are like and how peaceful things are.
