4 signs it’s time to break up with your real estate agent

Whether you’re buying or selling a home, having a good real estate agent is crucial to your success. You may have come across an agent who seemed perfect in the beginning but later began showing his or her true colors.

Here are 4 signs that it’s time to move on and find a new real estate agent.

1. They’re M.I.A
If your agent is constantly blowing you off by ignoring your calls, texts and emails, then you know it’s time to move on. A good real estate agent is professional and will respond to their buyer/seller within a reasonable timespan if not immediately. If you’re a buyer, an unresponsive real estate agent may cost you your dream home by not immediately reaching out to sellers. If you’re the seller, the unresponsive real estate agent can end up loosing you money by not responding to prospective buyers on time.

2. High-pressure sales tactics
A trustworthy and good real estate agent should never make you feel pressured to buy a home you’re not fully satisfied with, or to sell your home at a price you’re not happy with. If conversations with your real estate agent are leaving you anxious and nervous, then it’s time to say goodbye. Your realtor should be helping you out, not stressing you out. While real estate agents are the experts, always trust your gut instinct. Don’t just buy a home because your agent told you so. Make sure it’s what you REALLY want to do.

3. They don’t care to listen
One of the first things you should do with your real estate agent is to communicate what it is exactly that you’re looking for. Create a “deal-breaker” list of things you do not want in a home, and share it with your realtor. If you find that your realtor is continuously showing you homes that have too many of your deal-breakers, then it’s time to break the deal with them.

4. They’re too controlling
Your agent should never make major decisions without consulting with you first. He or she should discuss all contracts and offers with you in full detail. Just because they are representing you, does not mean they are in charge of making the decisions for you. A good agent will have open and honest discussions with you, and will not hold any secrets back.
